Aircon in Joondalup — Sparky for the Circuit, ARCtick Partner for the Install
Split-system aircon is a two-trade job and anyone who tells you different is winging it.
The electrical side — dedicated circuit from your board to the aircon location, isolator switch, breaker, switchboard upgrade if your old board can't carry the load — that's me. EC 9715, sparky work, done direct.
The aircon install itself — mounting the indoor and outdoor units, copper line set, refrigerant charge, vacuum, leak test, commissioning — that's ARCtick territory. It's a separate licence (Refrigerant Handling Licence) because cracking refrigerant lines without it is illegal and the gas can hurt you. I work with an ARCtick-licensed install partner who handles that end.
SMS me a photo of your switchboard and where you want the unit at 0415 966 469. I'll quote the electrical, the partner quotes the install, you get one job done by two qualified people.
What I handle directly
- Dedicated circuit from the switchboard to the AC location
- Isolator switch (rooftop or wall, code-compliant)
- Switchboard upgrade if the old board can't carry the new AC load
- AC load assessment for older homes — does the existing supply cope?
- Fault finding when an aircon trips or stops getting power
What the ARCtick partner handles
- Indoor + outdoor unit mounting
- Copper line set and insulation
- Refrigerant charge, vacuum, leak test
- Commissioning and return-to-service
- Manufacturer warranty registration
FAQs
Can't one tradie do the whole install?
Only if they hold both EC and ARCtick. Most 'all-in-one' aircon installers either subcontract the electrical or are operating outside their licence — neither's great. Honest split is two qualified people doing their bit.
How long does a coordinated install take?
Same day usually. Sparky work first (couple of hours), then the ARCtick partner does the install (rest of the day).
Will the AC work with my old switchboard?
Depends on the board's age and the AC unit size. A modern 7-9kW reverse-cycle on a 90s Kingsley board often needs a board upgrade first — I'll tell you straight at the quote.
Need a quote?
SMS me a photo of what you need done. I'll quote my side and coordinate with the partner for the rest.
