Data Cabling, NBN & Home Office Wiring — Joondalup
Working from home means the wifi-from-the-living-room trick stops cutting it. A proper Cat6 run from the modem to the office, a few neat data points around the house, NBN ONT relocation when it ended up in the wrong room — that's the cabling work I do alongside the electrical.
What I do
- Cat6 data point install — wall-mounted, neatly run through ceilings or under floors
- NBN ONT relocation when the technician put it somewhere awkward
- Home office cabling — desk-side data + dedicated GPO if needed
- Starlink dish electrical and cabling (the family also runs Sky Signal WA which handles Starlink as a specialist)
- Patch panel and small network rack install for bigger setups
- TV-to-AV cabling during a wall-mount install
Common jobs in Joondalup
Home office Cat6 run in an Iluka or Burns Beach new-build extension. NBN ONT relocation in a Greenwood or Kingsley renovation when the box ended up in a hallway cupboard. Two-storey Joondalup family home — Cat6 to a teenager's bedroom for online schooling and gaming. Starlink electrical and cabling for a Wanneroo property where NBN coverage is patchy.
What to SMS or photograph
- Photo of where the modem / ONT lives now
- Photo of where you want the new data point
- Rough sketch of the house if it's multi-room (or just the floor plan from your house listing)
SMS Tony 0415 966 469 with the photos and the address. Most jobs are a half-day visit.
FAQs
Cat6 vs Cat5e — does it matter?
For new runs, Cat6 every time. The cost difference is small and it's future-proof for 10Gb.
Can you move the NBN box?
Yes — if you mean the indoor ONT (the modem unit). The outdoor connection point is NBN Co's responsibility.
Why won't wifi just work?
It does, until you've got a teenager in the spare room, a smart TV in the lounge, three smart speakers and a video meeting all running at once. Wired beats wireless every time for the things that matter.
